Details of Representation

The County Council has previously expressed concerns regarding the allocation of this site, which is relatively distant from residential areas, for new B1/B2 uses which are likely to generate a significant number of commuter movements. The Plan must ensure that this site maximises what opportunities there are to promote sustainable transport – especially cycling and travel by bus, going beyond the general transport policy requirements. A regular bus service travels past the site, serving bus stops nearby.

Please set out what change(s) you consider necessary to make the Local Plan legally compliant or sound

The following requirements should be inserted into Policy 12.20.

‘Buildings will be expected to provide a high quality attractive environment with areas of green infrastructure and appropriate provision for vehicular parking. Opportunities to encourage and enable travel to the site by walking and cycling must be realised, along with measures to encourage travel to the site by public transport. Opportunities to enhance and link into the existing Public Rights of Way Network are encouraged.’

the County Council would be pleased to appear at the local plan examination, alongside and in support of the District Council, to help the Inspector consider matters relevant to the County Council and its responsibilities.
